Current Role and Experience:


Dr Gemma Handelsman has more than ten years experience as an Educational
Psychologist. Currently, Gemma works in private practice, offering Educational Psychology
services to families and schools. She provides holistic, child-centred, detailed assessments
to develop a clear understanding of a child’s strengths and needs in relation to their learning,
wellbeing and behaviour. Gemma develops trusting relationships with children, parents and
school staff, valuing everyone’s views and knowledge of the child. She works collaboratively
to develop a way forward to ensure the best outcomes for the child. She has vast experience
supporting school staff through supervision, solution-focused approaches and delivering
training in a wide range of Special Educational Needs topics.
Gemma has a specialism in Autism and experience working with autistic children and young
people from nursery through to college in specialist and mainstream education. She is
ADOS-2 qualified, trained in the SCERTS framework and previously an Autism Education
Trust trainer.


Gemma worked for many years as a Senior Educational Psychologist for a large county
council and as the Educational Psychologist at a primary special school for autistic children.
Gemma is very familiar with statutory SEN processes and has vast experience providing
advice for Education, Health, and Care Plans.
