Iman Omar: Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

Current Role:

Iman qualified from UCL ( University College London)with a master's in Speech and Language Sciences in 2017. She has been a qualified speech and language therapist in preschool for over six years (both NHS and independently). She is currently a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist for the NHS within complex needs and dysphagia therapy. She has worked in various settings, such as children's centres, child development centres, early years clinics, nurseries and specialist nurseries.

 

Her area of interest is complex needs such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), in particular, pre-verbal children and developing early communication skills. Over the years, she has worked with a variety of needs, such as language delay/disorder, social communication and interaction difficulties, stammering, attention and listening difficulties and complex needs. She also supports children with eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties within her NHS role.

She uses a variety of approaches, such as Palin PCI (Parent Child Interaction), Hanen More than Words, Attention Autism and Makaton, to name a few. She is very supportive of using neuro-affirming terminology and techniques to support children. She enjoys working in a multidisciplinary team and favours joint working as much as possible. Building a rapport and good relationship with the users is key to her therapy. She makes it easy, fun and as relaxed as possible for the children she supports.
